Durant, Thunder visit Wizards

Basketball Betting Lines

12/29/2009 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Oklahoma City Thunder will try to extend their season- high winning streak to four games tonight, when they take on the Washington Wizards at the Verizon Center.

The Thunder recorded their third consecutive victory with Monday's 105-89 triumph at New Jersey, as Kevin Durant pumped in 40 points on 15-of-22 shooting to lead the way. Durant has now scored 30 or more points in four straight contests and is fourth in the NBA in scoring with 28.2 ppg.

"Durant's a superstar. He can win a game all by himself," said Nets coach Kiki Vandeweghe. "He reminds me of George Gervin when I was playing, just a very, very difficult cover."

Nenad Krstic scored 19 points and Russell Westbrook finished with 16 points and 10 assists for the Thunder, who are 8-7 away from home this season.

Washington will open a short homestand Tuesday versus Oklahoma City and San Antonio, and is 5-7 in DC this season. The Wizards have lost two straight and nine of their last 12 games, including Monday's 116-111 overtime setback at Memphis in the finale of a three-game road trip.

Gilbert Arenas tallied 30 points and five assists for the Wizards, who went 1-2 on the trek and got 24 points apiece from Caron Butler and Antawn Jamison. Brendan Haywood added 12 points and nine rebounds in defeat.

"Right now, we're playing hard enough and good enough to barely lose instead of hard enough and good enough to pull these games out," Arenas said.

Oklahoma City defeated Washington, 127-108, on November 20 this season at the Ford Center, but the Wizards have won 10 of the past 14 matchups in the series. Washington has won the last six meetings as the host.

March Madness odds and printable March Madness brackets

With the field of 64/65 set, MySportsbook.com has the Florida Gators as the 4-1 favorite to successfully defend their National Championship.  Men’s Division-1 College Basketball has not seen a team repeat as National Champions since Duke won back to back championships in ’91 & ‘92.  After losing three out of four late in the season, the Gators are full of momentum as they won their last four games by an average of 18 points.  Not surprisingly, right behind the Gators are the other three top seeds: Kansas 5-1, UNC 6-1, and Ohio State 7-1.  Many consider Kansas to be the hottest team in the country, having won 11 straight. With Kansas, it is hard to ignore all of the early exits from the “dance” in recent years.  With an impressive ACC Tournament, UNC ensured themselves the other top seed.  UNC has about as much talent as any other team in the tournament but with a team that’s best players are primarily freshman and sophomores, could youth be a concern.  Behind freshman sensation, Greg Oden, OSU will look to do what their football team failed to do just a few months earlier.  OSU seems to have peeked at the right time, as they currently have a 17 game winning streak.  Since the tournament field was expanded in 1985, there has never been an instance where all four #1 seeds advanced to the Final Four.  It is obvious that each of the top seeds have the talent to make it through to Atlanta.  But as everyone knows, when makes the NCAA Tournament so special are all of the spoilers and “Cinderella” stories that knock off the favorites on a daily basis.
